This electromagnetic recording captures the subtle hum and electronic pulse emanating from the illuminated display of a vending machine in the fashionable Omotesando district of Tokyo.
“Day 6 in Omotesando: Remember Toy Story, where toys come alive when humans aren't looking? I've always wondered if inanimate objects truly animate when unobserved. This vending machine seemed to speak to me. I spent an hour today recording the subtle hum from it, I wanted to give it a voice like a Toy Story character.”
About Tiziana Alocci
Tiziana Alocci is an Italian data artist, public speaker, and lecturer based in London. Her practice creates data-driven compositions out of invisible phenomena such as sleep patterns, soundscapes, movement and scents. Her practice is defined as ‘behavioural cartography’ – visually mapping the minutiae of how people live today. Her art converts recorded data into visual and sonified abstractions – transforming data into meaningful stories. Tiziana has been an Associate Lecturer at the University of the Arts London since 2018.

The frame is handmade in London using solid wood only from sustainable sources. We do not use veneers, MDF, or any other type of reconstituted materials. Frames use 100% acid-free materials and are FSC-certified. We guarantee the quality and archival properties of every frame we make.
